Job Description

1. Roles and Responsibilites


MICA is seeking a highly organized and professional candidate to serve as a middle & high school English Literature and Writing teacher. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, patient, and have experience utilizing and applying the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).


The basic function of a teacher is the development and implementation of curriculum consistent with the philosophy, policy and practice prescribed by the School. The ideal candidate will have dedication and passion for the individualized need of students as well as an appreciation for diversity with respect for students needs by differentiating instruction. MICA uses an interdisciplinary approach to ensure the educational, mental, and physical well-being of students.


You will be responsible for the following: 

  • Plan unit/monthly/yearly lessons and curriculum that aligns with CCSS standards
  • Use a variety of delivery methods that is learning appropriate for student needs and the demands of the CCSS standards
  • Experience using Understanding by Design (UBD) to develop learning units
  • Follow the textbook and syllabus provided by the school for preparing lesson plans
  • Planning a developmentally appropriate educational program which fosters the social, emotional, cognitive, physical and aesthetic growth of each student
  • Deliver high quality Literature/Writing lessons to students in school
  • Instruct Middle and High School Integrated and Literature/Writing classes with enthusiasm, creativity, and sensitivity to student learning styles
  • Work with your co-teacher to add supplementary lessons and activities to your lesson plan
  • Utilize technology for instructing students, maintaining records, communicating information to parents, and promoting student and drama program achievements
  • Commitment to professional growth through participation in professional learning communities and development opportunities
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and the process of professional review
  • Supervise student teachers and actively participate in their learning (study hall/recess)
  • Maintain up-to-date records of assessment, attendance, planning, reports, conferences, and communication with parents
  • Conduct parent/teacher conferences once a semester (PTC) during working hours
  • Assist, as required, in the development of social and emotional curricular materials
  • Act as a resource/contact/support for new staff members (i.e. curriculum, schedules, procedures)
  • Participate in and, assist with, school events as required


2. Candidate Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • MUST have a criminal background check with apostille and a copy of your university diploma with apostille READY TO GO
  • MUST have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in English, English Literature or Education
  • Previous teaching experience, and strong knowledge in the area of specializations at the required levels of study
  • Knowledge and understanding of the programs of the International School (AP Program)
  • Thorough understanding of the curricular elements of a MS/HS integrated Literature/Writing curriculum
  • Expertise in building active, collaborative classroom programs which develop a sense of classroom community and trust.
  • A solid understanding of a MS/HS organization, programs and students
  • MUST have a Native level fluency in English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching license (any country)


3. Visa Sponsorships

  • We DO NOT sponsor E-2 visas
  • We are currently only accepting F series visa holders
  • Native Koreans fluent in English are free to apply


4. Working Conditions

Working Hours: 7:40AM-4:40PM

Teaching Hours: 25-30 Teaching hours per week

Lunch Time: 11:45AM-12:30PM (Lunch is provided)

Extra-Curricular Activities: 3:30-4:30PM

Students per Class: 15 students max

Age Level: 12-18 years old

English Level: Intermediate-Advanced


5. Salary and Benefits

Salary: 2.4-3.0 million KRW (Negotiable upon experience)

Insurance and Financial: Insurance and Pension will be provided by employer

Contract Completion Bonus: Yes

Vacation: 8 weeks (Summer, Winter, Spring, Korean National Holidays)

Sick Days: 3 paid sick days and 2 personal days provided

Housing Allowance: Studio housing or 500,000 won housing allowance provided

For literary instruction, we use Lucy Calkin's "Readers and Writers Workshop" which helps students gain confidence and skills in reading and writing.    Middle School Our middle school students develop knowledge and research skills based on their own personal interests through the US Common Core State Standards. Transitioning from elementary to middle school, students are supported by professional educators and staff who tailor the curriculum based on their interests, academic skills, and standardized assessments.    High School   Based on the US Common Core State Standards, MICA strives to improve high school student learning using current teaching methods based on current educational research.   We offer a diverse curriculum that allows students to individualize their own courses of studies and meet their objectives, needs, and interests.
