Situated in a small, unassuming three-story corner building in Chungmuro, central Seoul, Pildong Myeonok is a Michelin-rated Pyongyang naengmyeon restaurant that is widely considered one of the best Pyongyang cold noodle houses in the city. The restaurant’s naengmyeon recipe is decades-old, passed down to the owner from his father. The taste is rather mild, with noodles made from buckwheat and starch accentuated by a subtle beef flavor. The dumplings here are to die for and an order is a necessity to fully appreciate the restaurant’s North Korean influence. Pildong Myeonok also serves platters of boiled pork slices (suyuk) and stir-fried spicy pork. Pildong Myeonok and the nearby Eulji Myeonok are actually run by two siblings and the two restaurants originate from Pyongyang Myeonok in nearby Uijeongbu, which was opened by their father.
