Opened all the way back in 1953, Ojang-dong Heungnamjip has been serving Hamheung-style cold noodles for nearly seven decades now. This style of naengmyeon originates in the northeastern port city of Hamheung in North Korea. Pyongyang naengmyeon may get more attention in the media, but Hamheung naengmyeon is considered by many to be the more flavorful of the two. The restaurant makes its noodles from sweet potato starch and serves a wide array of naengmyeon, with noodles mixed with with beef, seafood, and spicy bibim paste all available to order. Delicious hot banquet noodles are also on the menu, perfect during the winter time, as well as platters of boiled slices of beef brisket.
