In the Jamsil area of Seoul rests the beautiful Songpa Naru Park, more commonly known as Seokchon Lake. As part of the development of the Jamsil area in the early 1970's, this body of water was artifically separated from the Han River into the small like it is today. Up until recently, the lake was far from being a tourist attraction; shallow, covered with mud and surrounded by farms, it had nothing in common with its current polished look. It has become a favorite spot amongst locals looking for welcome relief from the chaos of the surrounding area in this peaceful oasis. Tree-lined walking paths surround the lake and visitors can get a beautiful view of Lotte World Adventure's Magiuc Island.
Seokchon Lake is also one of the best places in the city to enjoy the ever-changing beauty of the seasons. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom around the lake like pink fairy dust. In the summertime, the shade from the trees provide welcome relief as the park is filled with muisc from the buskers playing the Music Concert Saturday series. In autumn, the harmony of the red and gold of the changing leaves is as beautiful as any scenery in the Korean countryside. In winter, the park is caked with snow, turning it into a peaceful white oasis isolated from the chaos of the rest of the city.
