Located at the beginning of Insadon's main street, towards Anguk Station, Ssamzie-gil is a peculiar shopping mall/market that stands out from the rest of this traditional-style street. Covered by ivy, the entrance to this shopping center opens up to an open plaza surrounded by rows of small designer shops climbing up four stories high. Ssamzie-gil has a soothing, artistic vibe, especially in the evening, when thousands of tiny lights illuminate the plaza and floors above.
The shopping center was constructed next to the traditional arts and crafts alleys of Insadong. With over 70 shops spread over four floors, Ssamzie-gil is filled to the brim with various shops selling all types hand-made toys, accessories, and handicrafts. The building itself is a work of art: designed in 2004 by a famous Korean architect Choi Mun-kyu, Ssamzie is held together by a smoothly spiraling walkway that connects each floor.
