A Korean native and former professional snowboarder raised in Aspen Colorado, Sung Ook Back, better known as Akira Back, embarked on a culinary career after seven years on the professional snowboarding circuit. After studying at a culinary school in Colorado, Back's love of travel and culinary exploration took him to Asia and throughout Europe where he worked under world-leading celebrity chefs. When he returned to the US, he was appointed as the first Korean Executive Chef under Nobu Matsuhisa. Furthermore, he was also the first Korean to enter the Iron Chef's 'Kitchen Stadium'. His restaurant in Seoul, Dosa, opened in 2016, and is described as 'innovative cuisine with a Korean essence'. The multi-course meals mainly consist of Korean fusion dishes, and the restaurant was recently awarded a Michelin Star.
