'Yuk' and 'Gap' are the Chinese characters for 'meat', and 'best', and Yukgap Sikdang lives up to its name, serving top quality beef and pork, procured from special locations overseas, that has gone through a double aging process. Even though the meat is of an incredibly high quality, the price is very reasonable, with some cuts of beef going for just 14,000 won per 150 grams. Because of its high quality and reasonable prices, Yukgap Sikdang has become a popular spot amongst office workers going out for hwesik (company dinner). The basement of the restaurant is usually reserved for such outings.
When you enter Yukgap Sikdang you'll notice a wall of signatures right at the entrance. Its filled with the signatures of celebrities who have dined there, going all the way up the ceiling, a point of pride for its owners and a way to show its high reputation amongst Seoul diners. Besides the usual fare of barbecued meats, they offer a yaetnal dosirak (old-style lunch box) filled with rice, spam, and a fried egg, as well as yukhoe (raw beef). After you finish your meal you can grab a free slushie from the machine at the entrance. But be warned, it can get very crowded on Friday nights, so if you plan on going to Yukgap Sikdang then, be sure to make a reservation in advance.
