The 2nd Tunnel

The 2nd Tunnel

제2땅굴

The second North Korean infiltration tunnel was discovered by South Korean soldiers in 1975 in Cheorwon County, Gangwon Province and has since been converted into a major tourism site where visitors can see for themselves the lengths the North Korean military has gone to gain strategic advantages over its southern neighbor. The tunnel spans a total of 3.5km, sitting between 50 and 160 meters below the surface, however, only 500m of the tunnel is open to tourists. The tunnel features three separate exits on the southern side and is big enough for 30,000 soldiers to pass through every hour. It’s even large enough for tanks to go through. Visitors can explore the tunnel as part of the Cheorwon Security Tourism Course.
