First opened in 1971, Doksuri Dabang was a popular meeting place for students from nearby universities for many years until it closed down due to financial difficulties in 2005. However, after the signage for Doksuri Dabang appeared in the hit drama 'Reply 1994' (응답하라 1994), many old customers began to petition for it to be reopened, and eventually, the grandson of the original owner decided to relaunch it in 2013.
Doksuri Dabang currently occupies the top floor of a building near Yonsei University's main gate, giving it breathtaking views of the Yonsei campus and Sinchon area. Once you exit the elevator, a short introduction to the cafe and its history occupies the wall, and to the far left of the cafe's entrance is a small art gallery that displays the work of local artists. The cafe occupies a very large space and even has a roof deck that's perfect for hanging out when the weather is warm.
One interesting feature of the cafe is the wall of post-it notes near the elevator. Back in the days before cell phones, if someone couldn't make it to their appointment they would leave a note on the wall for their company. When the cafe relaunched in 2013, the owner wanted to bring back this concept in order to maintain the cafe's vintage image.
