Branching out into luxury dining, SM Entertainment opened its SMT Seoul dining complex in the posh Cheongdam area in 2016, hosting two restaurants; Playground and Penthouse. The complex’s dark interior has incredibly high ceilings, with its walls lined with all kinds of artisanal sauces. On the bottom two floors is Playground, a Tapas-style restaurant serving up Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and Western cuisine. During the day they serve up lunch sets with a variety of coffee and tea, but come nighttime it transforms into a lounge with a large menu of liquor, wine, and cocktails.
Penthouse is the hyper-luxury part of the complex, occupying the third and fourth floors. Korean, Chinese, Japan, and Western-style course meals are available, although a room must be reserved in advance in order to dine here. Each room has its own unique concept, designed in collaboration with some of SM’s biggest stars. In fact, some of the menu items at SMT Seoul were actually created by SM members. There’s also a rooftop garden on the 5th floor for customers to relax in. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday after 10 pm there are hologram performances, along with music videos from some of SM’s top artists shown on screens around the restaurant, and even DJs playing on some nights.
