Korea's First Domed Stadium

Gocheok Sky Dome

Gocheok Sky Dome is an ultra-modern domed stadium- Korea’s first- that’s home to the Nexen Heroes baseball team, with a capacity for upwards of 16,000 people for baseball and about 25,000 people for concerts. The demolition of Dongdaemun Baseball Stadium and establishment of the expansion Seoul Heroes baseball team in 2008 led to plans for a new modern ballpark to be constructed. After numerous delays, the stadium finally opened in 2015, with Nexen Heroes, after protracted negotiations with the city, moving into the stadium for the 2016 season.

The stadium boasts some of the best facilities in the KBO (Korea Baseball Organization) and arguably the best food stands in all of the league, with a Pizza Hut, BBQ Chicken, and New York Burger all inside the ballpark. One drawback is the sightlines, which aren’t very great past the corner bases, so try to get a seat by the infield. The upper deck seats in the outfield also provide a very interesting view of the game. Nexen’s fanbase is small compared to some of the more established teams in the league, meaning the atmosphere can get a little flat. It’s best to catch a game when one of the other Seoul teams, Doosan or LG, visit, or on the weekend when one of the regional teams, such as Samsung, Kia, Hanwha, or Lotte, is in town.

Gocheok Sky Dome also functions as one of Seoul’s major concert venues, having hosted artists such as Migos, EXO, Big Bang, BTS, 2 Chainz, Metallica, and Ariana Grande.
