Get Down and Dirty at Boryeong Mud Festival!

Boryeong Mud Festival

Boryeong Mud Festival is Korea’s premier summer destination, attracting over three million visitors - both Korean and international - every year, making it one of the largest summer festivals in the world! Located along Korea’s west coast in the province of Chungcheongnam-do, just two hours away from Seoul, Boryeong has hosted this annual Mud Festival since 1998 at the picturesque Daecheon Beach. What began as a small family festival to promote local products has since grown into an internationally-renown ten-day beach party packed with all types of fun events and activities. Get down and dirty at the Super Mud Slide and Giant Mud Bath, participate in numerous games ranging from tug of war to a mud marathon to beach futsal, watch performances by famous K-Pop acts and rappers, and party to the sounds of some of the hottest DJs; Boryeong Mud Festival has it all!

Boryeong had initiated its natural sea mud business in 1996, developing 16 mud cosmetic products, including mud packs and creams. However, the business lacked public awareness and recognition. In order to effectively promote its products (and the city in general), Boryeong hosted its first Boryeong Mud Festival and introduced the beautiful Daecheon Beach to the world in July 1998. What began as a small four-day festival has morphed into a ten-day long extravaganza. 2017’s Boryeong Mud Festival attracted 3.28 million visitors, including an estimated 280,000 international visitors. Famous K-Pop acts such as Psy and IU have graced its stage, as well as numerous rappers and DJs, transforming the festival into a massive beach party at night. Fireworks displays, dance parties, air shows, and parades occur throughout the festival, making sure that every day is packed with unique fun. The festival has received numerous awards over the years, including more than ten consecutive Pinnacle Awards from the International Festivals and Events Association,  recognition as one of Korea’s representative festivals by the Ministry of Culture & Tourism, and coverage from major international news outlets such as CNN, BBC, the New York Times, and CCTV.
