Opened in 1992, Yangmiok serves up a delicacy from the southeast province of Gyeongsang-do called yanggopchang, or lamb tripe. Its major claim to fame is that late former President Kim Dae-Jung often dined at the restaurant during his presidency, and a picture of him and his wife with the owners in the restaurant hangs proudly on the wall. Both large (daechang) and small (gopchang) intestines are available to order, as well as regular lamb meat and galbi for those hesitant about eating intestines. The intestines are marinated in a sweet and spicy yangnyeom sauce and grilled over charcoal to give it a smokey, zesty taste. The owners recommend ordering a mix of lamb meat and intestines for the best taste and to get a full feel of the lamb. Yangmiok is a bit on the pricey side, with 200 grams of tripe costing nearly 30,000 won. However, at lunchtime Yangmiok serves up yanggomtang, a type of lamb stew, for just 8,000 won in case you’re on a budget.
