Tucked away in the narrowest of alleys in the midst of one of Seoul’s major business districts is Coffee Hanyakbang, a delicately designed cafe with an incredibly antique interior serving high-quality hand-drip filtered coffee. Classical music graces guests’ ears and the aroma of coffee and wood exudes a nostalgic fragrance. The cafe is modeled after an old-school Korean-style cafe known as a dabang, with its interior design and furniture harking back to the colonial era. Its menu may not be as extensive as other cafes, but as they say, quality over quantity and Coffee Hanyakbang serves up some great hand-roasted coffee as well as an assortment of desserts and other beverages. It’s a great, hidden oasis on the outskirts of one of Seoul’s busiest areas, perfect to escape the madness that is central Seoul and feel like you’ve stepped into a completely different era.
