Since it opened in Spring 2015, Manimal Smokehouse, a Texas-style barbecue joint, has emerged as one of Itaewon's hottest restaurants. Its co-founder and CEO, Kim Daeyoung, was even named to Forbes' 30 Under 30 Asia list for his efforts in harnessing a more positive restaurant work environment for his employees while developing one of Korea's most groundbreaking restaurants of recent years. The barbecue here is top quality, comparable to even some of the top barbeque restaurants in the US, with the restaurant usually going through 1,000 kg worth of meat per week. While much of its clientele are foreign residents in Korea, Koreans are beginning to catch on to Manimal's incredibly delicious barbecue, having been featured on SBS at the beginning of 2018.
Manimal serves a wide array of barbecue, ranging from pulled pork to juicy, tender brisket to raspberry glazed spare ribs along with plenty of tasty homemade sides. The meat is cooked in a smoker fired by oak, giving it an incredibly rich and delicious taste that makes Manimal a cut above its competition. Massive platters can be ordered for larger parties, packed with all sorts of meat, sides, and Manimal's delicious house-baked rolls. The restaurant has a very rustic, industrial interior, with a semi-open kitchen where patrons can get a peek at the massive smoker where the meat is cooked.
