Korean pizza gets a lot of schtick from westerners here for its low-quality cheese, sauce, and strange ingredients, such as corn and sweet potato, designed to fit the Korean palette to the point that it's difficult to actually call it pizza. Over the last few years, a host of pizza restaurants have opened up in Seoul hoping to reverse this trend and introduce Koreans to more authentic pizza. One of the best of these spots, if not the best, is Gino's NY Pizza, which serves incredibly delicious and authentic New York-style pizza. Since it opened in 2016, it's been featured on numerous TV programs and many Korean celebrities have come through its doors.
It's co-founder, longtime New York resident Eugene Kim, studied pizza for years, learning how to make sauces and crusts to absolute perfection. The final product is Gino's NY Pizza, which imports most of its ingredients to capture that authentic New York taste, leading to a very big and loyal customer base and the opening of two more restaurants in Seoul. The original, located in Itaewon, is situated on a hill with a beautiful view overlooking Yongsan. Gino’s NY Pizza serves a wide variety of pies with a medley of toppings as well as wings, fries, and other delicious appetizers. You can order anything from a simple plain cheese pizza to “The Butcher” pie topped with pepperoni, Italian sausage, and bacon, and “The Farmers’ Market” which is topped with an array of fresh vegetables.
