Korea's Most Historic Ballpark

Jamsil Baseball Stadium

잠실 야구장

Jamsil Baseball Stadium is largely considered to be the best baseball stadium in Korea in terms of atmosphere and history. It was constructed in 1982 to host Seoul's professional baseball teams in the then newly-formed Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), and the baseball competition at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Today it's the home of Seoul's two most popular baseball teams: LG Twins and Doosan Bears. When the weekend hits, the stadium is packed with fans guzzling down beer, munching on chicken, and singing chants throughout the game. You can't even compare it to the slow, quiet baseball games in the US.

Tickets for these games start at just 9,000 won for outfield seats, with the most expensive tickets going for 60,000 won right behind home plate. The stadium is compact and seats just over 25,000 people so there isn't really a bad seat in the house. Cheering sections are set up near the team dugout for home fans and on weekends away teams sometimes bring their cheerleaders as well. In these sections, a male cheerleader leads the crowd through a ton of chants as female cheerleaders provide support and melodies for the chants blast over the loudspeakers. It's not recommended to sit in this section if you just want to chill and drink beer. It's recommended to get to the stadium early on weekends as tickets usually sell out. For those fluent enough in Korean, tickets can be purchased through the Interpark app.

Outside the stadium, there are tons of stalls selling chicken, beer, and other snacks, while inside the stadium there are plenty of food stalls. Prices inside the stadium aren't that expensive, but the selection is a bit limited. There's also a KFC and Burger King attached to the stadium as well as fan shops for both LG and Doosan. Compared to other stadiums in the KBO, Jamsil Baseball Stadium is rather old and decrepit, and the Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced plans to demolish it and build a new baseball stadium in a different area of Seoul Sports Complex within the next few years. So make sure to check out this historic baseball mecca before it's gone.
