Since 2013, Daegu has held an annual Chimac festival in Duryu Park every July, which celebrates one of Korea's most popular meals; chicken and beer, or chimaek (in this case romanized as chimac). This festival now attracts over one million visitors every year from around the country, including many foreigners residing in Korea. It's a multi-day extravaganza filled with tons of fun activities and a variety of performances by famous bands, singers, and dance crews with Daegu's iconic 83 Tower lit up brightly right behind the festival in the backdrop.
While Cass may be the most visible beer brand during the festival, there are in fact 14 different beer brands serving beer at the festival, including some brands from Korea's burgeoning craft beer scene, as well as 36 different chicken brands serving up all types of tasty fried chicken to munch on over a few pints. Daegu is known as Korea's hottest city during the summer, so this festival provides a great way to cool off over a couple ice-cold pints, with a giant water slide and super soakers also available. There are also giant screens showing baseball games during the weekend for the most avid sports fans.
