Located between Apgujeong Rodeo Station and Cheongdam Intersection, K-Star Road is part of a wider project in Gangnam aimed at promoting Korean pop culture to international tourists. Gangnam began to receive global attention after the success of Psy’s smash-hit song, “Gangnam Style”, in 2012, but the district is most famous in Korea for its shopping and beauty clinics. To further promote both the district and Korean pop culture, the local government set up huge teddy bear dolls along one of the district’s main road, each decorated with the colors and logos of some of the top K-Pop groups, with some idols even leaving their autographs on them.
The 1km-long road leads to the headquarters and training centers of some of the largest Korean entertainment companies, including SM, JYP, and Cube, as well as numerous shops, boutiques, and cafes frequented by K-Pop stars. Take pictures with your favorite group’s doll, including BTS, Girls’ Generation, SHINee, EXO, and 4Minute, check out the training centers of the top Korean labels, shop for hallyu products, and relax in a cafe, all on K-Star Road.
