Myeong-dong is a district in central Seoul at the foot of the Namsan Mountain. It is most famous for its Cathedral, street food, and shopping. This area between Myeongdong Station (Line 4) and Euljiro 1-ga Station (Line 2) is filled with neon-bright shops, cafes, restaurants, food stalls, and more shops. Myeongdong is undeniably the most popular shopping district in Korea attracting almost 2 million visitors every day. It is often called the “Mecca” of shopping in South Korea.
The district consists of two main streets and countless side alleys that can take a whole evening to explore. After the sun sets, Myeong-dong looks more like a live stream of lights and people, but it can be quiet and calm during weekdays and mornings. Apart from brand stores, cosmetic shops and restaurants, the district also has the tallest Daiso shop in Korea (8 floors), two major Korean department stores Lotte and Shinsegae, big underground shopping center with Hallyu merchandise, Chinese Embassy, Korean Post office and stamp museum, and a historic building of the Bank of Korea.
