Alpha opened its first store in Namdaemun Market in 1971 and since then has emerged as one of Korea's top office supply and stationery retailers with stores open nationwide. Its original location remains its flagship and largest store, stocking a lot more than the average Alpha store. It hosts four stories of office and art supplies, stationery, pens, kitchenware, home deco, and even houses a museum on the top floor dedicated to the history of stationery and art supplies in Korea. The store is like a large maze, with so many stairwells and different rooms specializing in all sorts of products which is partially due to the store itself taking up multiple buildings.
The first floor is dedicated to stationery, pens, cards, and various computer accessories. The second-floor houses basic office and school supplies. The third floor is a mecca of art supplies; paints, brushes, pencils, sketchbooks, canvas. Anything you may need for an art project you can find on this floor along with craft paper, files and binders, and printing and copy supplies. The fourth floor is an interesting juxtaposition of supplies for architecture modeling, kids' toys and books, and household items. This is also where the entrance to the Korea Stationery Art Museum is. This museum exhibits photographs documenting the early history of Korea's various stationery supply companies and displays a range of products from various brands dating back to the 1960's up to the present to show the evolution of stationery supplies and toys over the years.
