While it might not have nearly as many stalls as Myeongdong, Namdaemun Market's street food is held in high regard throughout Seoul. Namdaemun Market is famous for its hotteok, a thick crispy grilled pancake filled with either sweet honey or a variety of vegetables. The two most famous stalls are Kim Jin-Ho Hotteok and Namdaemun Myeongmul. Kim Jin-Ho Hotteok serves the sweet variety, a crisp golden pancake filled with sweet honey and sugar. Namdaemun Myeongmul, on the other hand, is more famous for its japchae hotteok, crisp hotteok stuffed with glass noodles cooked in a light soy sauce with minced vegetables. You can also get a japcahe hotteok filled with kimchi or chopped squid as well as plain sweet honey hotteok. There are also many other stalls congregated near Exit 5 of Hoehyeon Station selling a variety of classic Korean snacks such as dumplings, meat skewers, gimbap, pajeon, and ddeokpokki. Many of the stalls in this market have been featured on TV at some point, so make sure to look for signs displaying the logos of some of Korea's major networks, such as KBS, SBS, and MBC if you want the best ones.
