Korea's National Assembly

National Assembly

국회의사당

The National Assembly is the heart of Korea's democratic system, the organ of all important political decisions made in the country, and the home of fierce debate between an abundance of political parties from across the political spectrum. The current home of the National Assembly was opened in September 1975 in Yeouido, after almost thirty years of constantly moving from one location to the next to conduct legislative matters, mostly in various buildings around the Jung-gu district. It's a massive structure composed of twenty-four granite columns ringing its exterior, supporting a massive blue dome that's easily visible from across the Han River. The National Assembly building is situated on a sprawling complex that's also home to a large park, library, visitor center, memorial hall, offices, and even a hanok

Tours are available to the public throughout the week from 9 am to 5 pm except on Sundays or when the National Assembly is in session. Tours can be reserved for groups of ten or more by calling the National Assembly office at the numbers below or e-mailing them at visitor@assembly.go.kr. Visitors are given a grand tour of both the National Assembly Memorial Hall, a museum dedicated to the history of Korea's National Assembly, as well as the National Assembly building itself, including the legislative chamber. For anyone with an interest in politics or history, the National Assembly is a must-see!
