COEX Aquarium

The Largest Shark Habitat in Korea

Conveniently located in the massive COEX Complex in Seoul's Samseong district, COEX Aquarium is home to over 40,000 creatures and some 650 different species of marine life, housed in a number of large exhibition spaces which are divided by theme. This includes the largest shark habitat in Korea which is home to 115 sharks of 17 different kinds of species. Visitors can follow a path through a wide variety of exhibitions, collecting stamps which contain an array of marine life such as manatees, seals, sea turtles, rays, and many more. In total, the aquarium has 14 exhibition spaces as well as a gift shop, cafe, and other facilities to make its visitors' experience as  comfortable as possible.    Visitors first go through the Rainbow Lounge, which has six tanks teeming with colorful fish which change each season, and are then led into the "Story of Korean Fish" section which houses a variety of native Korean marine wildlife before entering the "Garden of Korea", a traditional-style Korean garden modeled after the one in Gyeongbokgung Palace. One of the most fun exhibition spaces is "Fish in Wonderland", where small species of fish are put in some rather strange fish tanks, such as a London phone booth and even a toilet. There are also interactive zones in which you can touch the fish and look through microscopes.    From there you can explore some of the larger exhibitions, and see the aquarium's sharks, rays, manatees, and seals. Walk through the Deep Blue Sea Tunnel for an amazing look at some of the aquarium's marine life and check out the Penguin's Playground for a glimpse at the adorable Humboldt Penguins on display. Visitors can also watch the creatures get fed and watch a special presentation on the aquarium's marine life by the aquarium's staff at various times throughout the day. There's even a special mermaid performance, where female divers swim amongst 20,000 sardines for a breathtaking show.
