What to Expect

You can enjoy cooking a variety of Korean foods, from Samgyetang, Kimchi-jjigae, and Bibimbap to Bulgogi and Korean desserts, cooked together with a professional chef. Participants will first be taken on a market tour to buy ingredients needed for the class. Then you will have fun at  the cooking class before having either lunch or dinner together.

Morning classes start at 10 am while afternoon classes start at 2 pm

Market Tour
Gyeongdong/Yangnyeong Market

The first part of the experience is the market tour, where you will be accompanied by chef Kim Min Seon to buy cooking ingredients. Learn and see how fresh ingredients are picked and practice basic Korean language with kind green-grocers welcoming foreigners.
 

Yangnyeong Market is one of the most famous traditional medicine markets in Korea. Herbs here are sold at a much cheaper price than elsewhere.
Gyeongdong Market is located in Dongdaemun Street and is also one of the largest herbal medicine and ginseng markets in South Korea. In addition, vendors sell fresh ingredients, ranging from fruits and vegetables as well as meat and seafood.

 

Samgyetang Class

 

In this class, you will learn how to cook Samgyetang (chicken and ginseng soup). Samgyetang is made of chicken, ginseng, garlic, glutinous rice, and other ingredients. This healthy meal is rich and full of nutrients such as protein and minerals. Kimchi and Pajeon (korean pancake) will also be served.

Korean Home Cooking Class

 

In this class, you will learn how to make home-style Korean dishes, such as Bbulgogi, Jap chae (glass noodles), Deonjang jjigae (bean paste stew), and Haemuljeon (seafood pancakes).

Korean Street Food Class 

 

Remember all those delicious looking street food you came across as you were touring the market? You will learn how to make them! Enjoy Korean street food such as Kimbap, Tteok-bokki, Sundubu-jjigae (tofu bean paste stew), and one or two kinds of side dishes.

 

- Availability: Wednesdays
- Class Duration:  3 hours

 

Kimchi Class 

You will learn how to make several kinds of Kimchi using various ingredients such as radish, cabbage and even tomatoes! You will also cook steamed pork slices as it is a perfect complement to your kimchi.

- Availability: Thursdays
- Class Duration:  3 hours

 

Bibimbap Class

Bibimbap is rice mixed with vegetables, meat (optional) and added spicy paste called "gochujjang". You mix it together to create a dish with harmonious tastes and texture.

- Availability: Fridays
- Class Duration:  3 hours

 

Korean Dessert Class

You will learn how to make seasonal Korean desserts such as Gangjeong, Dasik, Songpyeon and so on. During every dessert class, traditional Korean tea will be served as well. You can take your Korean dessert home!

Korean Chimaek Class

Chi-maek, is a Korean abbreviation shortened for chicken and maekju (beer). This eating culture has been popularized all over the world where famous celebrities have been shown deliciously eating chi-maek. We will teach you how to make your own chicken dish that you can pair with some fresh beer!

- Availability: Tuesdays & Thursdays
- Class Duration:  3 hours

 

Once participants are done with cooking, they will all enjoy their meal in a traditional style Korean house.

Here you can discuss and learn how to use chopsticks and also learn Korean table manners, including table rules when dining with elderly people.
