When 2K Games revealed that NBA 2K21 would cost $70 on next-generation consoles, it sparked rumors that the PS5 and Xbox Series X generations would finally see another price increase for video game software.
In a new interview, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick defended the price point for NBA 2K21, saying that the increase represents “the nature of the experience.” During today's Q1 earnings call with analysts, Zelnick also discussed the price hike.
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Zelnick notes, “Despite the fact that it costs a great deal more to produce those titles, there hasn't been a price rise for a very long time for frontline titles.” “So we believe that the price is justified based on the value we provide customers... and the kind of experience you will only get on these next-generation consoles.”

On the company's Q1 earnings call, Zelnick explained that pricing would be announced "on a title-by-title basis," but defended the price point as a great value given the hours of entertainment offered by games like NBA 2K.
Other computer game developers have been questioned regarding the possibility of a price increase for next-generation video game software. Ubisoft has announced that its next-gen games would cost $60 when they are published in the holiday season of 2020, though future titles could have different pricing.
