Basic Qualifications

  1. Be a Native Speaker of an English Speaking Country :
    America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, South Africa, Ireland

  2. Hold a Bachelor's degree or higher

Documents You Will Need

You will have to verify your credentials with documentation, for both to your school and to the Korean Immigration Office. It is best to start ordering these now. The required documents are as follows:

  1. Your original diploma or a copy notarized by a Korean consulate near you.
  2. The original signed contract
  3. A copy of your passport photo I.D. page
  4. 4 recent passport-sized color photos
  5. Updated resume
  6. 2 transcripts of academic record (original, sealed with university stamp) Sample of sealed and stamped transcripta

Standard Job Conditions

While there is a certain amount of variation in the details of salary and things, generally speaking, first time teachers in Korea can expect a fairly standard package that looks something like this:

  1. Roundtrip airfare
  2. Housing provided
  3. 50% Medical insurance paid by employer.
  4. 120 hours or less of teaching per month.
  5. 1.8 to 2.3 mil Korean won per month.
  6. Severance pay at the end of your contract equal to one month's salary.
  7. 50% of the national pension paid by your employer .
  8. 10~14 paid vacation days per year.
  9. Tax rate of between 3.7 ~ 5%.
  10. Class hours
    • Elementary School: 40 mins per class and it's counted as one hour.
    • Middle School: 45 mins per class and it's counted as one hour.
    • High School: 50 mins per class and it's counted as one hour.
    • Private School: 50 mins per class and it's counted as one hour.
