- Working Hours: 11:00am to 7:00pm(Education Board)
9:00am to 5:00pm (English Center in Gongju Banpo)
- Teaching Hours: 20 - 22 hours per week

		The city is located in the center of South Korea : 167.3 km from Seoul , 294 km from Busan, and 169 km from Gwangju. It is also the gateway between Yeongnam province and Honam province. It is an important place where traffic diverges into two major expressways, the Gyungbu Expressway going to the east and the Honam Expressway to the west. It becomes the hub of national traffic both in name and reality, after the rapid transit railway started operation in April, 2004. Daejeon is the fifth largest city among South Korea 's top

Historically, Daejeon was a small village without many residents. However, in 1905, the Gyeongbu railway began operations from Seoul to Busan, opening a station at

Soon after, in 1926, under rule of the Japanese government, the Honam railway was built between Daejeon and Mokpo , transforming the latter into a major transportational hub. Because of its geographical location and proximity to means of transportation, Daejeon grew quickly. n 1932, the capital of Chungnam province moved from Gongju to Daejeon.

After numerous changes were made to the city boundaries, among them one that effectively made the nearby town of Daedeok a part of the city in 1983, Daejeon became a metropolitan city in 1995.


		In 1997, the Daejeon Government Complex was constructed in order to decentralize the
		population of South Korea from Seoul. The population of Daejeon increased dramatically as a result.


		Today, Daejeon's population growth is the second highest in the country, after Seoul,
		resulting in a large number of new apartment complex projects and hi-tech industries in Yuseong-gu The city is surrounded by four mountains. These mountains are Gyeoryongsan (mountain), Gyejoksan (mountain), Sikjangsan (mountain), and Maninsan (mountain). The city is also located along three major rivers. They are the Gapcheon, Yudeungcheon, and Daejeoncheon. These rivers help form the basin for the city. The water for the city comes from these three rivers and many small branches of these rivers. All rivers run from south to north, and flow into Geumgang - one of the biggest rivers in South Korea. The city originally developed from farms and houses that were on the hillsides and the valleys between the four mountains and along the three rivers. The three rivers divide the city's five boroughs.

◈Subway◈

		A subway system with five lines is undergoing planning and construction in Daejeon. The first part of this system, Daejeon Subway Line 1 began operation on March 16, 2006, and entire line was operating as of April 17, 2007. It is notably different from the system used in Seoul in its smaller car width; lack of doors between cars; fewer number of cars, use of four cars to a train instead of ten; and free space under the seats. The subway also uses round tokens instead of flat magnetic tickets as is the case with Seoul - the tokens are pressed into a sensor when

passing the turnstiles, and inserted into a slot on the other side when getting out. The nature of the tokens allows them to be used for advertising as well. Platform screen doors are installed in the subway stations.

◈Climate◈

The city has four seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter. It is located in the mid-latitude temperate zone which has seasonal winds and the continental climate. The average annual temperature is between 8° and 14°C (Celsius). January (the coldest month) has an average temperature of between 4° and -20°C and August (the hottest month) average temperature is 25.5°C.

◈ENTERTAINMENT & PLACES TO GO◈

		The Deajon Expo Park The Expo Park , with its focus on science and the future, enhances the consciousness of the importance of science in many young people's minds and upholds the spirit of '93 Expo. Cherishing the spirit of '93 International Expo, whose theme " New Way for a Leap," the Expo Science Park was opened as a theme park, the first of its kind in Korea . This park is a mecca of national

science education, a place that depicts international sciences, the future, as well as encourages cultural exchanges by upholding and improving the fruits of Expo. It also serves as a convenient relegation place as well.

In the park, there are many popular pavilions, such as the simulation theatre, the IMAX dome theatre, the tower of great light, the body world, the magic plaza, the aquaresort, the energy pavilion, the electric energy pavilion, the nature & life pavilion. Unlike the typical, boring exhibitions which conventional showfilms, the park pays more attention to offering better services to the visitors. In particular, the Hanbit Square , constructed May 1999 with the theme of youth, love, romance, and family in mind, is a place of interest to visit in the evening, its large-scale full-colored flowering section, its dynamic music fountain with special flame effects, and its splendid fireworks display on a site of 21411.66m², giving an exotic atmosphere.

◈Yuseong Spa◈

The Yuseong Hot Springs is approximately 11 km west of downtown Daejeon. The water temperature is kept between 42 and 55°C, and it is an alkali radium spring with a pH of 8.4. Because of these distinctive qualities, the water is said to be good for various kinds of skin diseases, neuritis, digestive disorders, obesity, and gynecological diseases. The water is characterized by long-lasting warmth after bath, an improvement in blood circulation, softening of skin callous and the relief of the relief of stress. Such effects over a more prolonged period. However,

cannot reasonably be expect the in a short time. They require baths. Located in the city, it is a representative urban spa in Korea around which a lot of high buildings, accommodations, and restaurants are located. ◈Daejon Zooland◈

The Largest Zoo in the central region of the Country!

The zoo has been developed as an environmentally friendly zoo on an area of about 600,000 ㎡ . This zoo is the second largest one in Korea and encompasses two types of safaris, 13 kinds of amusement rides and roller coasters, a sculpture park, a green shower forest, and entertainment facilities presenting a variety of colorful events and rest at the same time for all ages.

◈Kumdori Land◈

		"Thrills and Fun! Welcome to Kumdori Land !" It is located next to EXPO Science Park . The National Science Museum and Daedeok Science town are nearby. There are amusement rides, such as Blizzard and Viking, and a swimming pool, four-season slide, and a stage for performances. It is one of the largest entertainment parks in the central area of the country. It is open 365 days a year until late at night.

◈The National Science Museum◈

The National Science Museum is a scientific culture facility which studies and exhibits various scientific materials.  At its center is the Astronomical Hall, which is the largest dome in Korea .  From here you can vividly see the phenomenon of the celestial sphere and the human development of space.  It also has the only world-class space theater in Korea .  The 242 seats are available on a first-come first-serve basis.  It can recreate the appearance of a night sky, the highlight being the view of the starlight at the planetarium.

The Astrovision is also a special visual device, giving a magnificent and realistic view of space development.  There are exhibits featuring about 4000 items based on nature and natural science at the Permanent Exhibit Hall.

There are also exhibit halls featuring Korean nature, weapons, and folk musical instruments.  You can see the stages of collecting energy from nature, and its use in transportation. Outside the Hall is Cheomseongdae, a weather evaluating machine from the Goryeo period, models of plant-eating dinosaurs, and a steam engine.  The exhibits help to easily understand the theories of science, and the wonders of nature.  The museum has a movie theater.  Science movies and other excellent movies are shown at 11am and 2pm every day, and the seating can accommodate 776 people.

◈Gayang Park◈

		Gayang Park , a forest park , is located in the eastern part of Daejeon. It is divided into two main areas: Uam Sajeok Park , and Central Square located at the Daejeon Overpass of the Gyeongbu Expressway. The citizens of Daejeon and also many tourists visit Uam Sajeok Park to see its beautiful dense forest

◈Daecheonghosu (Lake)◈

		As a source of water supply to the Daejeon and Cheongju area, the Lake Daecheongho is also a tourist attraction well supplied with mountains and trees. As the third largest lake in Korea , Lake Daecheongho has water storage area of 73 km² a length of 80 km. The dam is 495 m long and 72 m high and has a pressure of 15 billion tons. It is a source of water for drinking for living and industry in the Daejeon and Cheongju areas.

◈Sikjangsan (Mt.)◈

		As one of the Eight great sceneries in Daejeon, Mt. Sikjang is a beautiful ecological treasure house. Looking east from Sikjang, one can see downtown Daejeon, Mt. Sikjang is 623.6 meters high and is located near Panam-dong in Dong-gu, Secheon-dong, and Sannae-dong. As the highest mountain in Daejeon, it has a graceful physical appearance, as well as exotic. It is plants, and historic relics. It is associated with many legends.
