Dongdaemun is one of the main shopping areas of Seoul. It reminds me of a flea market, but instead of having several stalls outside everything is crammed into a few giant, multistory buildings. So on each floor you have tons of individual boutiques selling affordable, non-brand clothing and accessories. And because many of the shops have a lot of the same items, especially in the purse/accessory section, haggling is encouraged! Most of the shops do accept credit cards, but you usually have to p..

On the other hand, Chuseok is a green signal for expats living in Korea to get out of their routine and have some time for recreation. Last Chuseok, I had a chance to go to Ulleungdo Island. I joined a group of expats. We were a group of 25 and it was a three day trip. Alcohol lets people loosen up and really get to know each other in a culture where social interactions are required to be formal and rigid. Alcohol helps break down those old Confucian based societal rules without offending anyone. This is why business deals are often made after the two parties drink together.
