Museum SAN, located in the outskirts of Wonju, Gangwon-do, is a multi-purpose art museum with a specific focus on architecture and nature. Museum SAN, which opened its doors in the May of 2013, was built under the guidance of Tadao Ando over a span of eight years. The museum houses three buildings along with three theme specific gardens. SAN which literally means a mountain in Korean is also an acronym for space, art and nature, meaning that all three of these elements are representations of Museum SAN. As you pass the flower garden, the water garden and the stone garden, you will find the James Turrell Exhibition Hall as the last place on the course. Here you can find four of the James Turrell's works(Skyspace,Ganzfeld,Horizon Room,Wedgework). It is truly an out of this world experience as you will be questioning whether what you are seeing is real or not.
Museum SAN is certainly a gem hidden in the beautiful mountainous landscape of Gangwon-do. It is a must visit for anyone in Korea for that people of all ages and backgrounds can come and enjoy the simply beauty of the place.
