Maybe it’s the bonafide city girl thing, or having lived in New York, but I adore rooftops. I love
everything about them. The moment of peace you find once you open that door to nothing above you
but sky, the industrial voice of the city turning into muffled distant echoes, and the bright panorama
of the filthy, overcrowded city you love below.
But even more, I love a rooftop bar.
There’s a new rooftop bar in town and it’s where i'll be. Just opening a mere few days ago, the grand
opening was held on the pretty ‘grool’ maybe even ‘fetch’ date.
(Tribute to the great teen cult: Mean Girls Day).
“On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was.”
“It’s October 3rd.”
The new bar is in the center of Seoul, in the Jongno area next to Changdeokgung palace where
Joseon kings once ruled. It sits atop of the Amass Hotel, and they called it 'Avant Garde Pub.'
It's oh so pretty, and at night LED roses light up just like in Dongdaemun Design Plaza.
Up here, views of the Changdeokgung Palace and the Namsan Tower also light up at night.
The boutique Hotel underneath, having only opened in late December of 2014, is still shy of making
its 1 year mark. But its strategic location has visitors raving for its close proximity to Seoul landmarks,
Changdeokgung and Gyungbokgung palaces, MMCA and for the excellent service.
The hotel's interior boasts an artistic flair as it supports and collaborates with young and talented
local artists. Their creativity is felt in the various design features scattered around the hotel and their
work is exhibited at ‘Urban: Heim,’ their own gallery on the basement floor. It is a spirited effort and a
platform, the hotel deems, to showcase
“a different side of Korean arts and culture to visitors from all over the world.”
To celebrate the grand opening of their rooftop bar ‘Avant Garde,’ the hotel is hosting their own party
this Friday and you’re invited!
And since it’s a rooftop party, I’m in! We really have to make the most of the warm-ish weather before
Seoul freezes over.
In the spirit of belated Mean Girls day, I’ll be pushing someone’s hair out of their face and tell them
their hair looks sexy pushed back.
After the party if I’m hungry, I’ll catch a cab to Itaewon and ask someone why they’re white.
Of course I end up here,
at Taco Bell even though I’m on an ALL-CARB diet.
I'm also getting cheese fries because the limit does not exist.
