Vegetarian Restaurant Directory for Korea

Being a vegetarian in Korea can sometimes feel like a challenge, especially when eating out is concerned. However, you might be surprised at how many cafes and restaurants serve veggie-only fare. Listed below are 14 popular veggie-friendly restaurants in and outside of Seoul.

In case you don’t live close enough to eat at one of these locations, or are interested in making some vegetarian or vegan food at home, you can order meat-free products to your door.

Online veggie-friendly shops are listed at the bottom of this article.

Many staple foods found in Korean restaurants, like rice and kimchi, are generally safe for vegetarians (vegans beware: many kimchi varieties are made with fish sauce). However, it can be challenging to find a totally meat or animal product-free eatery. The restaurants and bakeries listed below cater specifically to meat-free diets, with many also offering vegan options.

Notable Vegetarian Places

Loving Hut Franchise

The Korean “Loving Hut” chain of vegetarian restaurants has 28 locations across the country. Menu offerings vary from branch to branch, but they are most well-known for their soy cutlets, which, many diners swear, taste just like the real thing. Most locations mix a selection of traditional Korean dishes, like bibimbap /비빔밥 or sundubu jigae /순두부찌개 with non-Korean eats, like burgers and pastas. Others choose to specialize in one or the other. Prices are very reasonable, with most mains costing between 4,000KRW to 9,000KRW depending on the location.

Note: To find out more about the location nearest you, visit Loving Hut’s website.

Marche Organic Vegan-Friendly Farmers Market

Also of note for Seoul-based vegetarians and vegans is the monthly Marche Organic Vegan-Friendly Farmers Market. Occurring the first Saturday of every month, Marche brings together local farmers and bakers who offer everything from vegan burgers to organic jams. Prices vary by vendor. Most items come with an English description on the label, so the language barrier isn’t too big at this market. The market runs from 11:00 to 16:00.

Note: The location changes each time, so join their facebook group to receive updates.
