The result of the
International Education Quality Assurance System

(49 certificated universities and 13 universities which have visa restriction were decided.)

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Justice have organized the International Education Quality Authentication Committee. In 2013, the evaluation results of the International Education Quality Assurance System were announced.

The International Education Quality Assurance System was established to increase the Korean higher educations’ credibility globally and sharpen the Korean higher educations’ competitive edge. Since 2011,   some universities have been authorized as certificated universities every year, in order to institutionalize quality education into the Korean higher education system.

Subsequent to the screening examination and on-the-spot evaluation done by the International Education Quality Authentication Committee, 49 certificated universities and 13 universities which have visa restriction were selected.

The list of the 49 certificated universities are shown in the following graph.

In 2013, there were in total 10 universities which were considered for restrictions in issuing visas. In the meantime, given that there were also three schools which did not pass the clear screening again, their restriction periods have been extended. Overall, there are 13 universities which have restrictions in issuing visas in total.

For the relevant universities, starting from the second semester in 2014, due to the restriction for issuing the 1-year visa, it is better to put more effort in improving the international education quality instead of merely attracting new foreign students

The restriction for issuing visa is only applied to the students who have the visa for Regular Educational Program (D-2) and visa for General Training (D-4). It does not apply to exchange students, graduate students and enrolled students.
